I recall that the film's powers-that-be told Jeff Morrow and his leading lady to make scared faces at the "appearance" of the great bird. You see, the monster was not yet completed and on scene, so they had to use their imaginations during filming at what was promised to be a first-rate scary monster.
I never met a monster that I ended up not loving ... what's not to love?
