Ok first of all im sorry if this is not in the right posting area. My question is was jesus a mortal or immortal before he came to earth and did what he did. Also the angels? I allways thought that they were made to live 4 ever but yesterday my mom was talking about how jesus won the crown of life and only now he is immortal. So what, before he was gonna die if he never would have come to earth? and what about the angels were they made to die? I told her that there is no reason to make him or the angels mortal, and she said that if they were immortal then how could god destroy the fallen angels. But then if jesus is now immortal then can god not destroy him? i dont think there is nothing god cant do. Then she said that god wouldnt have to destroy him because he wasnt gonna sin, but still! im sure if god had to he could right?

The WTS teaches that Jesus was mortal before and during his time on earth (otherwise how could he have been killed). He was rewarded immortality upon his resurrection. The WTS also teaches that the angels (and the demons) are mortal, able to be killed by God or spirit creatures.

Ok but so ur saying that god cannot destroy them now? What is impossible for god. I know there is no reason to destroy him but still.

Mando8000, welcome to the this board! Thanks for your post!

The Watchtower Society teaches that before coming to earth, Jesus was the first spirit creature that had been created by Jehovah God. This pre-human Jesus was most likely also Michael the Archangel (according to the Watchtower Society). He was also known as the Logos or Word (John 1:1-3).

The Watchtower Society teaches that Jesus/Michael (along with all the angels) was created mortal with the freedom to choose to sin if they wanted to.

However, according to the latest Watchtower publications, Jesus/Michael had already reached a level of having an "unbreakable bond of love" with Jehovah, and that is why God knew that Jesus would never sin, even though He still had the freedom to sin if He chose to do so.

The problem with this view is that Jesus Himself taught that angels cannot die.

    Luke 20:34-36 (New World Translation):

Jesus said to them: “The children of this system of things marry and are given in marriage, but those who have been counted worthy of gaining that system of things and the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage. In fact, neither can they die anymore, for they are like the angels, and they are God’s children by being children of the resurrection.

The Scriptures also show that Jesus was Immortal BEFORE He came to earth. Hebrews 1:10-12 quotes Psalm 102 and applies it to Jesus. Look what Psalm 102 says about Jesus:

    Psalm 102:25-27 (New World Translation):

Long ago you laid the foundations of the earth itself, And the heavens are the work of your hands. They themselves will perish, but you yourself will keep standing; And just like a garment they will all of them wear out. Just like clothing you will replace them, and they will finish their turn. But you are the same, and your own years will not be completed.

It was only Jesus' Human Body that died, not His spiritual life, according to the Bible.

Also, nowhere does the Bible say anything about Jesus being Michael.

The Watchtower Society also teaches that it is now impossible for God to destroy Jesus, because God made Jesus immortal upon His Resurrection. However, this does seem to a contradiction with the Scripture that says nothing is impossible for God.

The entire teaching about who Jesus is by the WT is erroneous to start with, so just doesn't make sense. Cults always, without exception seek to demote Jesus in some way so as to allow a place for the leader(s) to usurp his authority. This creates a situation whereby the members think of the leaders as mediators between them and God.

Jesus, having the same nature as God (his father), had to always be immortal. When Jesus came to earth as a human he chose to empty himself as it says in the Bible.

The WTS does not say that it is impossible for God to kill the immortal just improbable.

*** w55 11/15 p. 703 Questions From Readers ***Reasoning in the same way, there will be no danger of any of the heavenly class who have gained immortality later choosing to sin, and thus awkwardly having in the universe immortal rebels. But here again, even if such a thing did happen, we need not think that Jehovah would be powerless. Jehovah could destroy even an immortal creature. Immortality means to have the power of life within oneself. In other words, such a creature is not dependent on any outside source or environment to replenish energy or for the continuance of the life processes. Human creatures must eat, and spirit creatures apparently draw upon an outside source for continued existence, but immortal ones would not have to do this. They cannot die from a lack in their environment, but have life complete in themselves. Nevertheless, the all-powerful Jehovah could terminate their existence if he decided to do so.
