Walter Cronkite’s Famiy Says “He Is Not Expected To Recuperate”

Walter Cronkite’s family was forced to make a statement about his health after CBS reported he was in grave condition last week.

“Walter is suffering from cerebrovascular disease and is not expected to recuperate,” his family said in a statement.

“He is resting comfortably at home with family, friends and a wonderful medical team. We thank you for your prayers and good wishes.”

Walter is considered on of the most famous news anchors and one of the most trusted men in America, our thoughts go out to his family at this time.

Man, we're gonna loose a great newsman "and that's the way it goes".

Why can't they just admit he's suffering from old age?

Sigh. The news makes me sad. I grew up with "Uncle Waltie" at my dinner table most every night. Why my parents had the evening news on while we were eating supper is beyond me. Maybe that is why I have sensitive stomach?

    Good night, Walter Cronkite.

I am sad to hear this. As a kid I looked up to him as an honest, trustworthy newsman and I tried to learn to speak as he did. I grew up in Boston and spent summers in northern NY and all the other kids made fun of my accent. I lost the accent and learned to recognize a great reporter in the bargain. I'll miss him.

The man is 93 years old. He's had a life of passion and dedication to his craft, accompanied by the accolades of his colleagues and fans. He was married to his sweetheart for 65 years. How can one feel sad? He is to be envied for his great good luck and well-earned admiration. Who among us can claim such a legacy?

Would you have wished that he live to 115?

It would be great to live to be 115 if I am in GREAT health but not laying in a bed suffering from cerebrovascular disease.

I remember he had great enthusiasm for the space race in the 1960s. In 1969, when the rocket for the first lunar landing took off at Cape Kennedy, Cronkite couldn't hold it back any longer and yelled "Hot diggety dog!" You gotta love a guy willing to say that on national TV.
