I'm not much of a country music fan but I've listened to a little over the years. The albums I've owned have been "best of" Garth Brooks, Alabama, and Dwight Yoakam. I also grew up with John Denver's "Back Home Again" album. The only country singer I saw in concert was John Michael Montgomery and he was a very good guitar player. I know a lot of people listen to country- so for those who do- this thread is for you!

I guess I did see Willie Nelson in concert, too. At a music festival where he preceded the Black Crowes. Interesting combo as they had one thing in particular in common LOL.

I prefer outlaw country and alt country over all the shit coming out of Nashville. The old outlaws, Cash, Waylon, Willie...that's good stuff.
Leaving those guys aside for a moment, one of my favorite "country" albums over the last couple of years is Straight to Hell by Hank III

These three come to mind...
Dwight Yoakam - This Time (We're seeing Dwight in concert on July 11th. He puts on a great show.)
Clint Black - Killin' Time (The entire album is good.)
Vince Gill - I Still Believe in You (Amazing vocals.)
The greatest hits of these artists are hard to beat...
Merle Haggard
George Jones
Don Williams
Conway Twitty (dirty country music)

one of my fav alt country bands at one time was Whiskeytown. here is a link to one of their songs. ryan adams was the front man for the group and went on to a rather successful solo career.
