Why preach in the third world?

If it's a scam to get money, why put so much effort into preaching in third world countries? They can't be getting that much return on their efforts there. Unless it's worth it to them to be a "world-wide" religion to keep the converts in rich countries convinced. Thoughts?

Actually, since they changed to the voluntary donation for literature in the 3rd world countries, even less money is gained.

When they knock on doors they are not just bringing a message of hope.

    That is just the carrot.

Everyone who rejects their message has rejected Jehovah and is, then, earmarked for destruction, meaning that they can have their house after Jehovah has killed them at Armageddon, and, hopefully, after their cat, dog and parrot have eaten all the smelly bits before they stink up the place.

If no JWs have brought them this message, God will spare them because they haven't had the opportunity to reject Jehovah.

    So.....

.....when they knock on the door of a someone who has never heard the cult's message......

...........they are the harbingers of Death ....... according to their own doctrine.

It's not about the money - at least, that's not the principal thing.

The money is nice, but the guys at the top get off on power.

The GB are in effect kings right now. Their word is law for 7 million people, the size of a decent-sized country. If they tomorrow wrote a Watchtower article saying "thou shalt believe in the trinity", 7 million people would immediately change their minds.

Power is a big big thing for a certain personality type. Guys who are addicted to power crave it like a crack addict does his next hit.

The GB aren't talented or intelligent enough to make it elsewhere in the world, but by following directions & keeping their nose clean for several decades they have risen to the top of a multi-billion dollar international publishing corporation and rule effectively as kings for a nation of 7 million people.

3rd world countries don't supply money, but they do supply easy converts attracted to a message of social justice and prosperity here on earth "soon". More people = more influence = more power. That's worth the expense to send missionaries & COs out to the "provinces".

It worked for the Catholic church. Even $1 a year from a million poor people is still a million dollars a year. As long as they can keep their costs down with free labour, it's still a good deal.

Who wouldn't want free labor to publish and distribute goods?
