Nobody should force them to wear skirts.

So the wife and I were watching Wimbledon today. We saw Serena beat Venus Williams. Then we started watching the Men's Doubles.
The wife said how the men were wearing such nice preppie shirts and shorts and how the women were forced to wear skirts.

I couldn't resist. "You are right dear. Traditions can get silly over time. Nobody should force women to wear skirts. Nobody. Many slacks and shorts outfits for women are just as nice and just as appropriate."

She didn't comment, but I think she saw how I was applying her thoughts beyond "tennis."

Yes, but Jehovah appointed the WTA as His channel on Earth and entrusted it with the responsibility to provide women's tennis tournaments at the proper time.

As such, it has the responsibility to establish a proper dress code. Questioning the wisdom behind the rules suggets a rebellious spirit and a lack of appreciation for Jehovah's arrangements.

Why do Apostolic Pentecostal women always wear dresses and have long hair?

Some interesting comments on a religion that always requires women to wear skirts.

That's an excellent idea. I'd like to make a suggestion with the disclaimer me not knowing you or her and wasn't there to see how the conversation went, so, sorry if this isn't my business, but here goes:

When you get these opportunities to get through, make sure that you don't do it in a way that really drives a knife in. She'd know you well, and know what you're thinking and would anticipate a lot of what you're going to say and why you're saying it. If you're going to say something with the intention of getting a message through, do it as kindly as you can, so that she doesn't build up this history in her head of you taking every opportunity you can get to run the organisation down. I think that if I was still a JW, and my husband did so, I'd find that very demoralising.

With eternal respect for you having kept it together for so long!

I remember being shocked when my best friend's cousin showed up to visit at our kingdom hall (her father was an elder, mother pioneer) and she was wearing what are now called guacho's. (Womens slacks, but an appearance of a skirt). I was beside myself.

My friend defended her apparell stating there was an article that stated sisters should be dressed in professional business attire, and these were accepted in the business community. I never dared to try it myself...but wow! What an article to find and make the most of!

Hey, another one that happened. The wife and I were at the main library in downtown Chicago. There's a quote from JFK on the wall. It goes something like "Welcome controversial books, welcome controversial authors." The wife said "It's a nice quote. I agree, but it won't go over that way in schools."

I asked, "Really? I am glad you feel that way. Nobody should squash books or tell others what to read or what not to read."

I think she caught it, but she didn't react.

Another reason Pentecostals wear long skirts is cos they roll on the floor a lot, gittin' the spirit.

If you don't have a long skirt, you might get excited in the spirit and 'show Christmas' while doing all that contorting.
