My wife and I just watched a touching film called "The boy in the striped pajamas".

It's based on the book of the same title. A tale of a little eight year old boy whose father is a Nazi officer. They are relocated to a nearby camp which he heads. His wife and childrten oblivious to it all.

His son bruno, can see the camps from his window and notives children there. He sneaks out and meets Smo, an eight year old Jewish boy and they become friends, trying to make sense of the war, and the way the Jews have been demonized.

It's a great story with a disturbing ending.

    Highly recommended.

I've wanted to see that film too. Is it out on DVD yet?

I saw the movie last year during my conversion to Judaism. I knew from the beginning it would not have a happy ending.

    Have you seen Defiance?

I thought it was a good movie. A child's innocence can be very moving.

Yes it's on DVD, I subscribe to netflix.

Yes, I saw Defiance, another great inspiring movie. If you rented it, did you watch the extras, and meet the actual families and descendants?

I saw this movie advertised and because I figured the ending wouldn't be a good one, I avoided it. I have to be in a place of strength for a bad ending -- and lately, that place has been eluding me. I'd like to see "Defiance" as well. I really enjoyed "Schindler's List" and "Murderers Among Us: The Simon Wiesenthal Story".

Heaven, if you got through Schindler's List, you'd be able to watch The Boy in the Striped Pajamas...while the ending is disturbing, it's more because the viewer is aware of what happened, but is not actually shown it. Hope you find that place of strength soon, as I'd guess it isn't just disturbing movies that are difficult to deal with at this time...

Loved Defiance (the music was great too). Read the book The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and now waiting for the DVD as we missed it at the cinema. The book was fantastic, even though it was actually a children's/young adult novel.

I saw the movie at the cinema at the suggestion of a rabbi I think highly of. I may try to rent it this weekend in order to see the extra segments.
