Is it always about them? (The JWs in Honduras)

What follows is an email that has been going around to Witnesses for a month or so. Some of you may have already seen it. It may have even been posted to this forum and escaped my notice.

Anyway, apparently there is some civil unrest in Honduras which, according to this email, has disrupted the activity of JWs in that country. What I always find amazing is that JWs always conclude that everything that goes on in these countries that negatively impacts them was definitely started by Satan and always for the direct purpose of slowing down or stopping the preaching work.

Hi Friends, Hope you are doing well.
Life here in Honduras has definitely changed with the political situation
    that is happening.
To give you a basic overview, the President of Honduras , (Zelaya), wanted to
pass a referendum to the constitution that would allow the president to run
for two terms instead of just one. Well, the people felt he was trying to
take steps to becoming a dictator like Chavez did in Venezuela . So, last
Sunday morning, the other branches of government had the military arrest the
president, sent him to Costa Rica , and appointed a new president.

The U.S. and other countries want Zelaya returned to power for political
reasons. So, now there is a big standoff between Zelaya and the rest of the
country who doesn’t want him back.

For safety's sake, the branch, with approval from the GB, has canceled all
the meetings and group witnessing in the whole country. The brothers can
still do their bible studies and informal witnessing, but no preaching
groups in order to not be confused with a protest and to avoid any protests.
We also received instruction not even to meet as groups to study for the
meetings; rather they encourage all to study as a family during the Family
Worship night. It is amazing to see how important it is to have a regular
    Family Worship night.

Since Teresa and I are still serving in Bethel, in Tegucigalpa , our days
have been pretty much routine with our work, however we’ve been encouraged
not to leave Bethel unnecessarily. For the missionaries and special pioneers
whose “job” is to preach, life has been pretty strange being indoors
    recently.

Yesterday, an email went out from the Branch to all missionaries and
need-greaters of evacuation plans to get out of the country in case things
get worse. They divided the country into 3 sections and assigned all
foreigners to the neighboring country’s branches of Guatemala, El Salvador ,
and Nicaragua. While it hasn’t gotten to that point, they quoted Pr 22:3 –
“Shrewd is the one that has seen the calamity and proceeds to conceal
    himself”.

We pray that things calm down soon because we have our national English D.C.
in 2 weeks. It is going to be a special convention because Bro. Pierce from
the GB and Gilead instructor, Bro. Noumair, will be coming for talks. So
hopefully we will still have it.

It’s interesting that for the last 25 years this country has been very
stable. But, now that the work has really been booming Satan has tried to
through a wrench in the works. Of course, we know without a doubt, that
Jehovah is always ultimately in control. So, we will see what the near
    future holds.

Please, keep this situation in your prayers; to let things work out for the
    good of God’s Kingdom.

    Take care.

funny how the GB and WT use what ever they can to put fear in the congo and make it seem like they are being attached by satan. the polictial party never said that they can't preach or have their group meetings. it was their decision to stop all activity for there saftey. but i can see how there going to twist things around to their convince. how nice really....

Besides the outright disinformation (US does not want Zelaya in power, in fact trained the miltary officers that took power) That is a very self serving email.

I know a guy who is a real missionary in Honduras, and not a corporate shill posing as a missionary. He wrote an account of the upheaval caused by the events, roads blocked. He is out in a very rural area and roadblocks really make it hard to get very needed supplies. Here is the site for those who are curious.

It used to be the time when jw would preach and meet together no matter what, unless there is a ban. Even during ban they meet in small groups.

I guess the WTS is changing where meetings and cong preaching are not necessary if a nation is experiencing problems. A a family by themselves is considered a small group.

This keeps the followers out of reach of trouble or as it is called, "persecution." How many jw would drop out if they personally face governmental persecution? Are jws still as bold and daring as the 1930s and 1940s? So by preventing the possiblity of government difficulties affecting the publishers, the WTS will keep these followers within the fold instead of Satan snatching them away.
