I know that there are people here with varying beliefs. Some of you are atheist, deist, agnostic, Christian, etc.
I'd always been sort of teetering on the edge between deist and atheist.
There was a time when I wanted there to be a God. I didn't know if he was supposed to be Jehovah, Yahweh, Jesus, Xenu, Allah, or the Flying Spaghetti Monster. I wanted to believe that he existed, though, and that he was at least remotely concerned about the people of Earth.
The Witness way of finding God wasn't very emotional. It was very matter-of-fact. God was inaccessible but you could get his direction through the Governing Body. And as long as you were going out in field service and you weren't practicing pornea by having your hands down someone's pants every now and then, your prayers might be answered if they had anything to do with his will being fulfilled.
But I decided I would try it the way that many other non-Witnesses tried to approach him. I tried to pray to Him/Her/It. I didn't call it by name because I had no way to know what the name was. I asked him/her/them to allow me to realize or recognize their presence by any mechanism of their choosing. I even said that I would give myself to that realization of that was its wish.
Many others have had the experience of God washing over them after these moments or maybe something becoming clear to them that had been hazy for their entire lives.
For me, I got nothing but static. Dead air. I waited for days, praying again during that period. Nothing.
I came to the conclusions that
1: God didn't want me to get to know him for whatever reason or
2: God didn't exist
For all intents and purposes, option 1 was the same as option 2.
So I settled on option 2.
At that moment I became one with the universe. Everything is what it is.
God didn't answer my phone calls. I think it may have been caller ID.

The silence can be deafening. Deism makes some sense. My beliefs change daily. Sorry God is screening his calls.

I got the same response you did. Could it be my breathe?

What did you expect to happen?
What did you expect to hear?

All calls to God must be made to this number: 718-560-5000. Ask for 'Big J'.

Caller ID? Telephones are so last century. God isn't into that anymore. Try Facebook or Twitter.

Maybe God was busy out roughing up some other rival god and couldn't take your call, not to mention all his other duties like running the entire universe, scouting out intelligent life forms to worship him, and having his only begotten die for them so as to get there sins against him forgiven,, why with all the planets in the universe that have intelligent life on them God's only begotten is probably busier than Hell too,, so I wouldn't expect much of a reply if you prayed to him either.
