"You used to believe it..." - (No, I don't think I ever did)

Someone said that recently to me. I didn't seek them out but they hounded me until I let them in. IN any case I don't even know what a phrase like this even means.

    "You used to believe it..."

Does this mean that they lump all specific thoughts into one big ball and say "Ya either belive it, or ya don't"?

How can anyone be that way?

I always tried my best to check out each and every utterance against the scriptures to "see if they were so" and when I found teachings which were not in the Bible or that contradicted it directly or in its spirit, then I had to disagree.

    "You used to believe it..."

The "it" they are referring to is the whole ball of wax. With JWs, it is all or nothing.

    What did you reply?

In my case, I would have said: "Yes, I used to believe it before I actually did what the bible says to do...make sure of all things. I did some prayerful research and I guess God read my heart and lead me out of the darkness and into the light."

I pretty much replied as I did, only less tersely as they kept shifting their position. You know, kindof like trying to witness to a Pentecostal with the spirit - always changing the subject.

My mom says that to me all of the time.

    Well......

I did believe it, until I learned what it was, then I realized that I did not believe it, so I left it like so much garbage and walked away.

I came home to find the little borg feelers reaching out to find me. A call from someone in another state who never calls with some bogus question. Obviously the raptors are trying fences out and haven't found the effective way in yet. Little do they know how I can cut people off (thanks to all that elder training) so no problem for me not to answer the door/phone whatever.

The only way anyone could "get" me would be if they happened to be a really good runner and "got" me while I was out trail running. I don't think that'll happen.
