"The Truth"? No, a Self Sustaining Fantasy

It seems that we are often confronted with the quietly aggressive assertion by Witnesses that they have "the Truth".

There is one phrase that accurately summarizes the collective beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses: a self sustaining fantasy.

Hope that got thru. Anyhow, being a faithful Witness depends on ignoring history, chronology, science, evolution, logic and so on. Read whatever the Watchtower prints, go to meetings and keep thinking Armageddon is Soon despite 130 years of prophetic failure.

Monty Python had an apartment building sustained by hypnosis. Witnesses have an entire organization maintained in similar fashion!

It bothers me that the witnesses apply this term to the Watchtower. I always used it though, when I was younger. It was so common.

Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life"

Nothing more than a fantasy that keeps them going!!!

Promise deliverance to people, while keeping them distressed so they "need" such deliverance. Of course, it comes with a price--you have to worship the being or organization that is supposedly going to deliver you from the distress they themselves create in order to experience it. Of course, it never comes in anyone's lifetime--in AD3000, we are still going to have the Judgment Day at hand.

Seems that God is a master at this trick. Religions also master this trick (the ones that don't go belly up). The deliverance is the fantasy--were God (and the religions) to cease to exist, the distress would disappear and mankind would deliver itself. No God or religion needed. The other factor is, if you stop believing it, you die or go to Hell. Seems to work in keeping people in line.

like a neverending story, just sustain it with changing plots. prophecy in chaper 1 (russell) changes to morphed prophecy in chapter 9 (jarycz)
