"The thread - with my investigations, pleads and comparisons - will appear soon."

I will be very interested in this thread.

I'm not a computer geek, although, when I'm logged into a facebook application, it's obvious to me someone is electronically searching my PC. I don't find that on JWN. I see advertiser's searching for "key words' and that sends a hit, opening up an ad. That happens every where you go on the internet. These advertiser's do not enter your PC.

RE privacy, I'm very interested in seeing how my privacy, other than what I post, is being violated on JWN. If I post, I don't consider it private anymore. If I goggle "DJK", this post may appear. If I can post here for the world to see, what's the difference?!

Like I said, I'm not a computer geek. I am very interested in knowing how my privacy is being violated on JWN, as it could be the same on other sites in way's that I'm not aware of.

Bangalore, as far as I can tell, the issue is about third party applications. They invisably invade a PC and are never in any way seen again as far as I can tell. The problem I have with it so far is they interupt a system and slow it down. It all "seems" to be for marketing purposes only. I don't understand how my privacy is invaded and what may be taken that could effect me in any way. Maybe I'm blind.

I feel the primary violator of privacy is the facebook application itself. Not long ago I had a friend suggestion, not a request, for someone with my fathers name. I checked it and it was private with one friend I didn't know. I did a search using my fathers email addy and it came up blank so I assumed it was a different person. Time went by and the suggestion came up again. I checked it again and found his sister listed as a friend. My non-JW aunt is also on my friends list. I assumed facebook connected us this way not thinking about the original suggestion. I made my profile private so he wouldn't see a lot of ex-JW stuff but I could have been very late in doing such.

Last night I discovered how we were connected. My email addy is in his address book. Facebook, not a third party, entered his PC for that info. Obvious to me now is he has two e-mail addys and he's using one for facebook. Maybe to hide from the JWs in his address book. Won't work. I'm not a computer geek, maybe most folks know this already. I discovered this last night when I mentioned to my wife I got a suggestion for a friend of her friends list. (not one I would put on my list) She said wait a minute, that friend is not on her facebook friends list. With no other friends on our list's to connect these suggestions, the only way for facebook to make a connection is to have entered our email address book.

To wit, this is the evidence I have to prove the makers of Facebook, the primary and not a third party, with violating my privacy. This back door activity can lead anyone to your doorstep, where as the third party just wants to send a bulletin to advertise something that you may be interested in. Unless I'm missing something because I'm not a computer geek, I feel this legal legislation doesn't target the real problem.

As I have also said one million times, I´m not looking for an FBI maximum security, I only want my personal info to be inside the community. Why even bother having a log in account if everything is open and outed at google anyway? I do find it strange. If I google my name, up comes all my info here (which though Simon has now deleted - thankyou), all my posts, all my topics started. Thise are things I don´t want to have outed since some of it is personal and delicate matter. Being an x-JW can be hard to some.

When you signed onto this forum, I have to believe you viewed pages of it before doing so. It should have been obvious then what is available for public viewing, even any picture you may have posted. I'm sure your also aware that the site is free, offering a private section which only members can see. That in turn can draw anyone out of curiosity. At that point anything you enter into a profile and in the private area is now available to everybody, including those you don't want to see it.

My point is, the forum owner did not send out info about you, nor did the advertisers on this forum collect and send info to someone you didn't want to have it. You placed the info and someone using legitimate access aquired it. IMO. I can't with 100% certainty say someone on the forum recognized you, and in passing happened to mention you to the wrong person. The forum doesn't have a blacklist preventing a JW from your KH/formerKH from becoming a member.

As for having total privacy on the internet. Never going to happen. There are sites now that for 40$ I can find out almost anything I want. I've been in the witness protection program since 1975. People in the witness protection program discovered me on the internet about two years ago and they notified me. They gave me instructions/warnings regarding my use of the internet. Bottom line, I shouldn't be on the internet if I want total privacy, if I don't want to be found in a dumpster minus tattoos, head and hands.

Sorry about that ... I think I've answered her concerns and provided what she asked for but apparently she still isn't happy and wants to start hijacking threads now. I was trying to keep this on topic.

Nathmedeah - it has been explained repeatedly across many threads that the forum software is being worked on at the moment and the ability to edit profiles will be available again very soon. But at the end of the day if you choose to put your personal information and picture in your profile on a public website that is YOUR responsibility.
