It Doesn't Have To Be This Way

It might surprize some of you 'loyal' defenders to
consider this but I think many of us dissidents
would appreciate a strong, specific response from the
    Society.

Suppose they published one Watchtower after another,
defending everything from blood to Gentile Times, down
to the finest detail. Suppose they expressedly told
Witnesses to throw out their computers, cut off the
internet - or at least face immediate disfellowshipping
for ever communicating with anyone else that's
    df'd.

    But they don't

I wish they would because it would suggest that
someone is actually in charge of the organization.
If you get together a bunch of old men who were
strict followers all their lives, ethical change becomes
    an almost impossible task.

This lack of leadership is why the organization
is being led by lawyers, by DEFAULT. The Society's
lawyers can demand and create immediate change,
    based on legal necessity.

This is sad because changing the organization
could be accomplished in a win - win scenario that
    would benefit nearly everyone involved.

    1) They could dump the blood issue WITHOUT A DISASTER
in 6 months. Write a series of special articles
emphasizing WILLING service. Jesus did what he
did VOLUNTARILY. Then have Circuit Overseers meet
with the elders, as normal, and instruct them to
CROSS out the part of the "Pay Attention" book that
lists failure to abstain from blood as a df'ing
offense. Explain that no one is to be forced on the
matter - it is a question of faith and willing service.

    2) Throw out the songbook, write a new one with honest
allusions to classical themes, refuse all works
from organizational hacks - don't ship 'til they
contribute - heck, you'll even make $ out of it!

    3) Cut the meetings way back, add other services for
families, old folks, and kids. Add a scheduled
communal meal like the Bible sez (!!!).

    4) follow the Bible on df'ing - you can talk to
anybody in an effort to improve them spiritually.
If you must shun, don't eat with 'em

I think they will find more problems with Witnesses
being ashamed of the organization - especially if
they get nailed for child molestation. The kids are
already in the 'double life' mode so things are
    moving in that direction.

They could improve things but you can't squeeze much
creativity out of half senile old farts, I guess.

It just doesn't have to be this way.

Metatron, your post reminded me of a similar question I had with our cost of our local telephone service.

I live in a ‘backwoods’ part of North America where our local telephone company is a subsidiary of one of the most technologically advanced companies in the world.

Instead of a digital telephone system, our community that extends over millions of square miles still uses antiquated analog switching but we pay premium prices for a current service with limited functional expandability.

As you say, ‘…It just doesn’t have to be this way’, so why the delay updating an antiquated system?

Technically they’re a monopoly because although other communication companies are welcome to compete, they have all the ‘cards’ and any other carrier knows there’s no point in even trying. Our telephone company has been making a ton of money on the current system because of this captive audience of consumers and will continue to for sometime to come.

If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it, I suspect is the WTBTS Corporations guiding philosophy also.

    Metatron,

If they followed your guidelines, their membership might be happier and they wouldn't lose so many nice folks like us. Although I left for a different reason, i was unhappy for a loooong time as a JW because of the things you suggest improving.

    cheers!

I think possibly this is why some of us in feeling our lives moving forwards ended up running into a brickwall, (lyrics Pink Floyd, Your just another brick in the wall). We realized our lives were in transformation and our understanding at that time was being expanded upon. But in forcing us into antiquated doctrine and practice, they kind of kidnapped our collective freedom of choice, something which within democratically, the freest country in the world, the USA seems very much out of sync, and then to pass this organisation off as one that protects and upholds freedom of worship, it all stinks of hypocrisy and lies.

Have a good 'un this new year!!

And yes I do agree that the Society could produce a strong statement, twould be interesting to find out exactly where they are, much needed.

I wouldn't be so sure of that...

I agree that there is little or no leadership now. The 'inspired' charismatic individuals of yesteryear are a thing of the past! I can't see any way out for the WTS. It should fade into the mainstream!
