G'day Celtic, you sure you want Australians joining this thread?

OK .. I'm always open to new ideas. I'm on 40acres of tall timber surrounded by half a million acres of state forest and national park. I'm currently running serveral hundred possums, several large colonies of bats, kangaroos, swamp wallabies, feathertail gliders, kookaburras, barking owls, powerful owls, hawks, wedge tailed eagles, lyrebirds, bellbirds, currawongs, cockatoos, ecidnas, quolls, frogs, goannas, lizards, snakes, eastern waterdragons, 50 head of wombats possibly a yowie or two and a large moose. (well, we call it 'the moose' really it's just the biggest red dear in the southern hemispere)

PS: I'm setting up a permiculture garden but so far the #$%&! wildlife keeps eating everything, including my fruit trees... geez they couldn't even wait for the fruit ... i've had words with 'em all about it and they listen, but when my backs turned ..lol.

YOU BLIGHTER!!!! I didn't know you were into permaculture?!! Though I have a feeling I shoulda gathered, ummmmmmmmm.

So, on the principles of permaculture, oh btw first, this garden, is it for personal or commercial growth, the fruit trees etc? And how much of your yield is lost in profits pa due to wildlife nibbling behind your back? Can you give me a figure?

And whatever figure this is, how much is also lost on trying to keep these rodents away in lost time compared to potential profit if the solution could be sourced?

    Can you guestimate?

    Cheers SprucyBrucy.

    G'day Scully,

Nah I don't think fairy penguins come up this far, they mainly hang around the colder waters of Victoria and South Australia (though a colony live happily in a western sydney wildlife park ;)

Funny thing about australia is that we aren't allowed to keep native animals without a permit .. one reason i decided to move in with them instead ;)

    Hey Celtman,

I told you ages ago I was into permaculture .. I don't bullshit about such things .. lol .. permiculture was invented by a Tasmanian i know and admire called Bill Mollison. He has helped hundreds of thousands of communitees around the world restablish the lost arts of sustainable villiage life. This is the most clean, peaceful, green valley in the world .. well NSW anyway .. I'm not doing anything commercial, just seting myself up to be self sufficient and run mine tours.

I hope to spend next year fully commited to building my dream. I intend posting photos as i go.

    cheers, unclebruce

Hey Celtic...what can you do with land..that is otherwise green belt?
From my standpoint planning is in favour of keeping land in agricultural use.

Any thoughts? Feel free to email.
