  I just joined this site. Folks post items that they don't need or request items that they want. If you're the first to respond to an item that is posted you can get it for free. It's a good way to get rid of stuff and to get stuff. I've been able to get a glider rocking chair and a futon bunkbed.

  It's also a great way to meet nice folks. Hubby and I met a really sweet couple who live really close to us and they have kids the same age as our kids and on top of that also have a pair of autistic twins. We're planning to keep in touch.

  I'm glad it worked for you. I joined several years ago to get rid of a bunch of stuff when we moved, and it worked fine then, but slowly I started to get annoyed with all the requests coming in for laptop computers, video game systems, flat screen tvs, and even cars. And I got tired of having the same people swoop down as soon as I posted saying they "needed" it, but it turned out they had a perpetual garage sale where they sold what they got of Freecycle. I finally withdrew my membership from the group as it was just too aggrivating.

  Yes, I've noticed the outlandish requests for iPods, flat screen tv's, cars, etc. I figure those folks are mostlikely ignored and I do the same. So far I've met some really nice people who just wanted to get rid of stuff fast with out going through the garage sale process. It's either this or Craigslist. Oh and opportuntists come in all packages. There are folks who go around to garage sales, lowball what they pay and then turn around and sell the stuff at fleamarkets. It happens.
