In one sense I understand. I found the OT pretty hard going at first.
So what differences have you found?

OT god kills indescriminately and the NT Jesus resurrects. Jesus rocks!

People change over the centuries and the God's they invent change with them. Imagine if we invented a God now, he would probably actually make sense now.
Same God.
Different Purpose.
Old Testament: Lionlike Creator of the world and the Nation of Israel, He had to fight to establish the Nation that would produce the Messiah, and to protect His people from their enemies and themselves.
New Testament: Lamblike Redeemer of the the Nation of Israel and the world, He became human and died in order to reclaim His Creation from the Wicked One.
