Humans congregate to do bad things online...

    Tuesday

I'm on a site now that streams wrestling pay-per-views illegally. I'm on because every time I go to a PPV at a bar or if I actually order it for the price without fail I feel jipped. Especially since the wrestling is usually terrible and choreographed. Last weekend there was a TNA and I realized that there were 120 people just on the streaming site I was on, I thought about people with black boxes, and all the other sites out there that were streaming the PPV, then I started thinking about the napster, kazaa, and limewire like sites for music and movies. Then there's all the torrent sites out there.

I was thinking how funny it is that people will group together in mass to get things that they feel they pay too much for in order to get them for free. Maybe if movie companies, music companies and entertainment *caugh* wrestling *caugh* companies stopped simply trying to take our money and really did put out a great product people wouldn't congregate so much to illegally download the products. I think back to the Star Trek movie, if anything was going to get pirated it was that movie, yet even with the pirating it did phenominal at the box office AND it is poised to do just as well in DVD sales. Same thing with The Dark Knight. What are your thoughts, do you feel there wouldn't be as much of a problem pirating things if people when buying these services didn't feel like they were being jipped as much? Or do you think it doesn't really matter if the product is good or not, the internet has made it so people will steal as much stuff for free as possible?

    Tuesday ...

I hope this is a joke.

If you fell compelled to PAY to watch pro wrestling, roller derby or other redneck "sports" .... and then complain that it costs too much ... well ... I fell sorry for you.

Get a hobby. Read a good book. Get a GED.

I think pirating will continue, regardless. The only ways--IMO--to curtail piracy is by creating a more valuable product, as you mentioned, and by people having more disposable income.

Maybe when this unemployment slump ends, there might be a little less piracy...

Can't stop piracy without un-hackable multimedia device.

I suspect your last option is true Tuesday. If people can get something cheaper or free, they are likely to. It's the same when you look at counterfeit labels on cloyhing/perfumes etc.

When buying counterfeit or pirated stuff though, do bear in mind that the proceeds may be funding more sinister activities...

I am a pro-wrestler, I need to keep up on the latest stuff because when I do indy shows the children talk to me about the current product and I need to at least know the basics to talk to them about. (Check out some of my matches by searching Tim Kilgore on youtube or go to www.dailymotion.com/timkilgore )

Get a hobby? You're talking to the guy who did the Tough Questions for Jehovah's Witnesses series on Youtube, I also program video games in my spare time along with video editing. Last book I read was The Prince which was a week ago. I don't have a GED, I do have a High School Diploma, an associate's degree and a bachelor's degree. Oh and I'm returning to school to get my doctorate in Pharmacy in the Spring.

Don't stereotype, you always end up looking more ignorant than the person you're trying to stereotype.

There will always be people who feel entitled to free stuff. And they will always justify their entitlement.

Tuesday ...I do apoligize for being as harsh in my original comments as I was.

However, I still cannot understand how any intelligent person can feel "jipped" when it comes to disposable income used for entertainment.

I used to have a partial season ticket plan for our basketball team (Miami Heat). When the tickets got to the point that I felt they were too much for the seats I wanted (over $85 each), I dropped the plan. I didn't feel jipped ... just felt that they were not worth the money. In my mind, that money could be used for other things that would provide me with a greater sense of satisfaction.

When my wife and I go to the movies, I'm personally not paying $16 for a bucket of popcorn and two sodas. Now, we make sure we eat before we go. Problem resolved.

When you comment that the companies are "simply trying to take our money" ... duuuuuhhh ..... yea .... that likely is the case. No doubt about it. So is every store in the local mall, Walmart, Sears, the pizza place, the Chinese food restaurant, the Ford dealer on the corner and every company that advertises on the radio, tv, newspaper, internet, etc.

If I feel "jipped" it's not from disposable income. It's from things I have little or no control over: taxes, water/sewer bill, health insurance premiums, etc, etc, etc.

But if I go out and buy a Mercedes and complain I am getting jipped because they cost too much or buy season tickets for the theatre and say I am getting jipped ... well .... sorry ... I don't understand.

Again, sorry for the harsh words earlier (but it is still fun to bust rednecks .. lol).

You've never gone to a movie you felt was terrible? What if you were a movie reviewer in your free time for instance on a blog, after a while would you feel like you didn't want to spend money on certain movies because you know they're going to suck? Or in the case of music, do you not feel annoyed when you buy an album because of a song you heard that you liked only to find the rest of the album is terrible?

This is kind of what I'm talking about here...

The problem with busting on people assuming things is that 9 times out of 10 you're completely wrong. Wrestling is pretty much the only "sport" I watch, I don't like really any other sport. I'll watch MMA a bit because I've done that too in my free time.
