Thanksgiving is a day for families to get together and eat turkey. For the women folk (and some guys) to slave away all day in the kitchen and the menfolk to watch football, eat to much, and fall asleep in front of the tv. Wait a second...that happens everyday in my house! wtf!
hee hee
(except for the turkey part - there's no way in hell I cook turkey everyday)

Dear Highdose,
Just Google it and Wiki or one of the other sites gives you the info. I guess what scares Dubs off is that this was originally a religious festival imported from Europe, but now almost entirely secular.
They just have to be kill-joys because their god Jehoober is such a miserable old git.
It sounds a lot like Christmas was for us when I was a Dub, but we have better Chrissies now, prezzies etc. and lots of family love.

Being raised in Plymouth, Ma. the history there is in fact a huge part of the whole town. Thanksgiving has to do with the pilgramage from England to the "New Land" when the pilgrams landed on Plymouth, Ma. they were very sick and many were dying. Until the Indian Chief Massasoit and Squanto helped them, and taught them how to plant food. Later during the time of harvest they had a boutiful feast and gave Thanks to those who helped them. In in area of Massachusetts, turkeys were hunted and served with the great meal. It was a time of great appreciation of the pilgrams to meet with the helpful Indian Chief and Squanto, and for them they "gave thanks" and created a tradition later called Thanksgiving.

Its a day for family to get together and remember all of the reasons they have to be thankful even if times are not so good. Truth be told lots of witnesses cook turkey and have large gatherings on that day but claim they are taking advantage of everyone having the day off. I think Canada has a similar holiday in October.
My dad is not a JW so my mom would always throw down on Thanksgiving and invite a ton of folks over, but of course, we were not celebrating Thanksgiving.

I thought it was to do with the pilgrims at plymouth rock giving thanks for the harvest?

Thanksgiving is the day we celebrate the invasion and slaughtering of native Americans, stealing their land and rewarding them later by giving them casinos to run tax free.
