I'm about to buy a new computer. I edit on Pinnacle. Any other editors on the board. I'd like to get a laptop, but I don't want to spend over $1200.
Editing DV from XL1. No HD.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

I use Windows Movie Maker for free. The ones that spend a lot of money for it
usually recommend Sony Vegas.

Efficient video editing usually requires a strong and fast CPU and a large amount of RAM.
its for this very reason most video editing is done on desktops PC or MACS, if your not going to edit HD,
there are some new Laptops that have reasonably fast quad core processors and large amounts of video RAM
that might do the trick. Sony have recently put out some laptops that have Bluray disk capabilities, hence
they might also have good hardware for video editing. They are in the $1,200 range, HP has something similar
thats also worthy checking out.
I use Sony Vegas for editing and DVD Architect for authoring.
Sony bought out Sonic Foundry who made these apps and SoundForge, a kickass audio editor which I used and became proficient in. I got into their CD Architect app and then Vegas and DVD Architect. I like how the editing is setup, how the apps are integrated and the advanced features available. Reasonable pricing too.
I'm not a pro video editor; just use it for home videos and projects, etc but I like some bells and whistles,....
Uh, what Homer said re hardware. Desktops better than notebooks as a rule but $1200 will get you a decent portable.
