Why are so many Public Talks these days aimed at the congregation rather than the public?

Is this by design, or is it Elders slipping up?

References to "Brothers and Sisters" etc. are hardly relevant in a talk supposedly designed for the 'public'.

Has their been 'new guidelines' given?

There are no new guidlines. In truth the outlines are not really geared the public, and since they have been shortenened to 30 minutes there is no time for the cozy stuff you used get at the begining. Some outline such those dealing with the trinity and creation are more orientated to the "Public" than others.

We had a number of guys who were used as Chairman, who would thank the speaker, and then say "our thanks goes to the FDS for the outline"

I used to point out how inappropriate it was to use such an esoteric expression at the close of a Public Talk, but I don't think those guys had the brain cells needed to think up their own words, or the education to know what esoteric meant.

I think most speakers felt there would only be " persons of interest " apart from Dubs present, so gear the talk mainly at the majority, already brain-dead. certainly a lot of what was spewed on the platform would have astounded and sometimes incensed members of the Public.

I can remember when the Sunday Talk was a real public event with advertising leaflets and strongly aimed at newcomers. The chairman always referred to the speaker as "Mr" not Bro...

But like anything, it all has lapsed now

I pointed this out to elders and servants from time-to-time that their public talks referenced the members instead of the visitors. They thanked me for pointing it out.

I think it's just the loaded cult language that makes members feel that they need to talk a certain way from the platform. "We" have something special that outsiders don't understand and "we" know better than them. It's in all the other talks on weeknight programs, so it's tough to make the transition for some.

I hope it backfires. I hope they get some visitors, and they hear the language and realize that the whole religion is a scam. And, I hope they get into a boasting session where they mention that people need to pio-sneer, even to the "Pio-sneer....or DIE", or "The month has five Sundays, so everyone must pio-sneer. And that is the end of a lot of studies.

In the old, old days, probably before any of us were alive. The Sunday meetings were ALL in the afternoons, in the morning you would go out in service, stand in front of a church and pass out leaflets regarding a public talk that afternoon. The meetings were considered public meetings, with a talk and then a Q & A session.

The "Public" talks are nothing of the sort. They are aimed squarely at those already in and loaded with JW-speak and things only Witnesses can understand. I wonder why the phrase "Public Talk" is even used anymore.
