i just recently came across an article about
Melissa officinalis, aka lemon balm, indicating
the trials with an active constituent "citral"
seemed to have an agonist effect mimicking
acetylcholine triggers on both muscarinic
and nicotinic receptors in persons with Alzheimer's
Disease, having a significantly positive outcome on short term
memory compared to placebo (double blind, randomized,
placebo controlled trial)as well as indications of a mild sedative
effect reducing agitation...
it was in the journal of neurology, neurosurgery and psychiatry (voume 74)plus.... it smells wonderful!

I'm a qualified Aromatherapist and although not currently practicing, I am still very much a great believer in its benefits and still often use the oils.
