From reading so much here, it seems evident that WT restricts young people from enjoying much in life. Apparently they have condemed a lot of music genres and now jumping on Facebook, too. Has this always been true through the years that anything in popular culture was demonized or restricted?

As a JW were you restricted from fun things like yo-yo's, light-up sneakers, tye-dyed clothing, etc. because WT managed to somehow turn it into something of a scriptural admonition?

What were some of the past fads that would have brought a JC down on your head? What were some of the things that you would like to have had or things you would like to have participated in but were cut short by WT dictates? And what reasons did they give that "hayrides and such" were the tools of Satan?

I did use Y0-YO many times when I was raised as a JW. edited: ooops! I was reading too fast, I thought you were talking about the string thing.

The society did its' best in trying to stop me from playing with my ding a ling. Untill Chuck Berry came along and made it acceptable.

The Yo Yo was frowned upon at one time until the invention of the illuminated Yo Yo when it became acceptable as a new light category.

    Did you know....

There are ancient Greek yo-yos made of terra cotta in museums in Athens and yo-yos are pictured on the walls of Egyptian temples. The Yo-Yo is known to have been popular with such important warriors as Napoleon and the Duke of Wellington.

Here's a history lesson about what can happen when you play with a ding-a-ling.
