The GB of the WBTS is telling the R&F to do the above. How so,see the Jan 2010 KM.

1.Dishonesty.Initially,do not ask for money-(plot of telemarketer)

2.Deception,Use your own telephone-Bypass the DO NOT CALL marketing registery list.

3.lying.We received counsel from GB about evils of telemarkting scams. But it is ok now.

As with the Do Not Call registry, this is a way to bypass the laws. The laws were set up because the people did not want to be bothered by people selling scam products (usually crap at inflated prices) all through dinner. And now the witlesses are trying to ensure that people never have ten seconds of peace. And yes, they are lying about the donations (I thought you could get disfellowshipped for lying, unless the lie was told to get out of doing something even worse).

As for regular telemarketers, I do believe most are scams. Usually, it is a credit card debt consolidation with either a high fee, a high interest rate that kicks in after the trial, or both. I have seen one scam that sells you crap vitamins (a 6 month supply was $300, back in 1986), along with some crap "bonus" that was supposed to have a higher value than the $300. There is always a catch that prevents you from getting the full value. Thus, I do not recommend ever buying anything from a cold-call telemarketer unless you know they are a reputable company (companies like L.L.Beans never rely on telemarketing).

The witless telemarketers are even worse. At least, with the vitamin scam, I only lost $300 and got a piece of crap "computer" that was nothing more than a toy. (And a piece of crap camera with coupons for film, which were worthless.) They tried to sucker me for a new bonus and more vitamins, but the second time I merely wasted their time and phone tolls and refused after wasting 10 minutes of their time. The witlesses, on the other hand, scam you for your whole life and everything you worked for--and are not so easy to get out of.
