Being an Ex-JW, It's like William Shatner on Saturday Night Live

It's a bit long, but below is the greatest SNL clip ever. Many will agree.
Being an ex-JW on this forum and meeting with others in similar circumstances, I am constantly hearing William Shatner standing in the place of Ray Franz shouting down to me, "GET A LIFE!"

It is difficult to move on. For Shatner, his accountant (or manager) explains why he should stop telling fans to move on. For me, it's the wife and mother still being in the cult. For many of you, similar circumstances. When Mom passes away (a good 20+ years from now), I may finally be able to totally let go. Meanwhile, I let go a little more as each season goes by.

If you can make it through 6 minutes, you may know what I mean.

If you won't watch the funniest SNL clip ever because it's 6 minutes, here's the best part:

It would be funnier than hell to see a JW District Convention chairman come out and give Shatner's speech to the crowd. People, "Get A LIFE!".

I can't watch the clip from here, but I do remember it when it aired.

And you're right...sometimes we do need to get a life.

But in defense of our not letting go...Star Trek was a TV show, not a cult.

People devoted their time to it and loved it and hated to let it go. We're ex-cult members who are much more scarred than some nerds who can't get their weekly fix of Kirk, Spock and McCoy.

No one was shunned when ST went off the air. No one was cut off from their families. Can all ex-JWs say that?

Not to belittle your thread/post...it is a great way of looking at it, but I just wanted to give it another perspective.

They were not shunned, but they should have come out of Mom and Dad's basement. Instead, they found an afterlife in Trekkie stuff. It's similar to us. Of course we have our valid reasons for the scars while they were just learning Klingon for selfish reasons. Still, some of us would like to move on. I post something like this every now and again because I am ready to move on, but the ties keep my here. It's not a complaint, just a feeling.

    Thanks for posting, all.

District Overseer to crowd: "Friends, it's not real. Leave here and get a life. I know I will. Pioneers, get out of your parents basement and get an apartment of your own right after you find full-time work. Instead of preaching the word, rest up for work or enjoy the day."

I know...I understand. That's why I was trying to make sure that my comment didn't come across as assholian (I think the Klingons assimilated them before moving on the Federation). I have those same thoughts from time to time. But like you, as long as I have family in, I will have ties to JWism somewhat. And I'll have to deal with it.

So keep those thoughts coming. It helps me more than you think...

We need Shatner to do this routine at a District Convention.
