It is a fraction of red blood cells. I think it is about 97%.
The other three percent is the sac in which the hemoglobin is stored.
So the short answer is that since 2000 Holy Spirit changed it's mind and now it's OK.
That's what I thought. I believe the 97% is dry content and it is 35% of total content including water (Wikipedia).
Do hospitals actually transfuse just hemoglobin or do they hook you up to a bag of red cells for ease?
What does a pint bag of hemoglobin look like compared to a pint bag of red cells or a pint bag of whole blood?
No it is not ok. Hemoglobin is still too close to blood to be regarded as a proper fraction. I think in the Gods word book it is still classed as forbidden.
Blood that has been divided into red cells and white cells is still forbidden.
Products or fractions derived from the red cells and white cells are a matter of conscience.
2 steps down from whole blood ok, one step down not ok.
Actually the WTS do allow it now. From JWfacts...
"PolyHeme and Hemopure, by Massachusetts-based Biopure -- are in the final phases of research. Hemopure, used in surgeries, is made from cow blood, while PolyHeme is derived from hemoglobin, a protein found in red blood cells… There's another benefit, too, one that has gotten little attention. While the Jehovah's Witness church discourages transfusions due to the biblical stricture against the consumption of blood, it has given its 1 million American members leeway to accept products that are not derived from the major components of blood."
Wow and it changes I wonder who on GB needed to use this one?
Any fool can see that the Mosaic law forbade the use and consumption of the blood cell membranes.
