Someone, I think on freeminds.org, found that the Watchtower, over the passage of decades, gave higher and higher numbers for the casualties of historical Earthquakes.
A Professor at Cal-Tech I contacted says that Earthquakes have not become more frequent this century, the population of earthquake prone areas has increased causing more casualties.
Earthquakes are mostly random events. Like flipping coins, you may get heads four or five times or 8 times in a row but not that often. Eight big earthquakes in a year is like getting 8 heads in a row, its just a random occurrence.
When Jesus said that there will be earthquakes in one place or another, he was actually saying that these were NOT the sign of his return. He was saying that one would CONTINUE seeing such events and that concern for them should not transfer over into making one think it was a precursor to his return. He said that the Kingdom preaching to all the inhabited Earth WAS the necessary event to finish before his return.
The physical events that would accompany his return were severe celestial phenomenon. The Sun being darkened could mean some sort of atmospheric dust cloud, like from a major volcano. The moon being turned to blood could be "blood moons" or the effect of huge amounts of dust in the air. After Mt Pinatubo erupted, which put an unusually large amount of dust into the upper atmosphere, we had a very cold summer in Connecticut (no tomatoes) plus sunsets were redder which causes the moon to take on a red tint. Like looking through colored lenses. The stars falling would be meteor showers, bolides (fire balls) or even asteroids.
Also, in several places, Zechariah, The Revelation to St John, A letter of Paul, and I believe the Psalms, there is a VERY GREAT earthquake foretold, such as never happened or will happen again. It describes it as causing every wall to fall, mountains to be brought down and islands sunk. A great asteroid striking Earth could cause such an earthquake.
There is also going to be a stellar or solar event that will super heat the planet and fulfill St Peter's prophecy in 2 Peter 3 of the Earth being destroyed once by water and again by fire. Josephus records that this prophecy of a pair of destructions was given to Adam who passed it on to Seth who had it inscribed onto a pillar of stone and one of brick. The discoveries of astronomical time keeping were also put on those monuments which may indicate that the clock of the stars, planets, and moon were indicated for the time of the destructions by water and fire. That may be after the 1000 year reign since it says at the end of The Revelation to St John “look, I am making all things new”.
If you don't think refinishing the Earth by fire is a good idea, go look at Hawaii. Hawaii was ALL molten lava at one time. You see, to a Hebrew, heaven was the space that the birds fly in. Look at Genesis chapter 1-3 for that. Peter says that the heavens would pass away with a hissing noise. There is NO SOUND in outer space.
(There is NO new “world” in scripture. That would be a nonsense term. It comes from the influence of Freemason theology which is the origins of The Watchtower. Charles Russell said that he wanted to “prove the Freemasonry of the Bible”.)
Reference Josephus, Antiquities of The Jews for the destruction prophecy. Its in the first few chapters and one can find it online at CCEL.org
