Wouldn't this make them a political organization in spite of their "neutrality" doublespeak?

Could this have anything to do with the Rutherford/Rothschild land acquired in Israel?

The term Zion got its political connotation after CT Russel named the magazine in 1879, so the short answer is: no hidden meaning there.

According to the following info from wiki, it would make your statement invalid.

Almost two millennia after the Jewish diaspora, the modern Zionist movement, beginning in the late 19th century, was mainly founded by secular Jews, largely as a response by Ashkenazi Jews to antisemitism and the Anti-Jewish pogroms in the Russian Empire

    ---------------

Der Judenstaat (German, "The State of the Jews") is a book written by Theodor Herzl and published in 1896 in Leipzig and Vienna by M. Breitenstein's Verlags-Buchhandlung. It is subtitled with "Versuch einer modernen Lösung der Judenfrage", "Proposal of a modern solution for the Jewish question", and originally called "Address to the Rothschilds" referring to the Rothschild family banking dynasty which was very influential in the realization of a Jewish state in Eretz Yisrael. [1]

It is considered one of the most important texts of early Zionism. As expressed in this book, Herzl envisioned the founding of a future independent Jewish state during the 20th century.

At what point did WT relinquish the "Zion" affiliation? Is it still on any legal descriptions of the WT?

I don't understand your dilemma, the qoute says 1896, that is after 1879. Sure, the philosophy was probably starting to form before that, but it got named only in 1896, when Zion's Watchtower was already being printed for 17 years.

This is almost, but not quite, as goofy as your idea that "elders" are really "el-ders", worshipping "El".

Keep it up! This is most entertaining.

WTS is not a Zionist organisation. It may have been originally.

Theologically speaking Russell thought the Jews had some role in the outworking of God's divine plan. Rutherford chucked this out with the idea of spiritual Israel being the 144k.

This makes the WT today adherants of replacement theology.
