Witlesses commonly think that the practise of enforced shunning keeps their congregations morally "clean" but this is nonsense.
Do you need a new marriage mate? Get divorced and re-married and then go into the disfellowshipping "penalty box" for awhile! You then wait it out, write a sorrowful letter to the elders ...........and get back in, and you're OK.
Ask yourself, does the penalty box in hockey actually stop violence on the ice? Actually, professional hockey teams spend time in practice to know how to fight on the ice. They practice this along with other skills like shots on goal, moving the puck, etc.
You see, the penalty box is just part of the 'game' in both situations.
The Jews in Jesus day LOVED to practice shunning. Did it keep them morally pure? Did he think so?
Far from keeping Witlesses 'pure', it simply entrenches conformity to the Watchtower - which is its real goal.
