    Greetings,

I was discussing doctrine with my mom, to try to get her to see things in another way. Unfortunately things got heated. She obviously has doubts, but seems to be of the thinking of better not to question and just go along.

She did make a good point though. When looking at doctrine or GB, elders, one proposing to be guided by holy spirit, was it not the same case in the first century and previously? These ones also made mistakes (apostles, David, cicumcision issue, Paul's issues with brothers, etc.), and they continued in Gods favour. She equates the same thing with the WT society. I tried to use other reasoning as well, in regards to the control of ones life by an organization, disfellowshipping etc.

What line of reasoning can be used in the first case, perhaps scriptures.

    Thanks.

One word comes to mind over and over again. Pedophiles!!! Hard to keep getting that issue wrong if you are guided by holy spirit.

Couldn't all religions claim the same thing then based on this. That they make mistakes because they are sinful/imperfect

    but still curry God's favor?

What does her own bible say? Ask her how many times the first century christians picked dates for the end to come.

Then have her read Luke 21:8 from her NWT:"He said: “Look out that YOU are not misled; for many will come on the

basis of my name, saying, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The due time has approached.’ Do not go after them"

Then after reading that scripture to her from the society's own translation of the bible, ask her how many times has the

Watchtower society (J.W.'s) claimed that the end was at hand? Ask her if the years 1914,1925,1975 etc. ring a bell?

There's a nice fellow named Glenster who has a coverage of the very thing. There's a lot more going on with the JWs leaders' history than mistakes or sincere differences of belief:

Depends on what you mean by mistakes. They never made mistakes concerning doctrine or prophecy like the watchtower. Also as already stated you could use that same login about any religion. Of course the catholic church and the pope made mistaakes in the past, but we should wait on jehovah and continue to obey them because they are imperfect.

Yes, but the claim to be "the only true religion" or the only true version or Christianity put a burden upon Jehovah's Witnesses to be more accurate than any other religion, including the first century Christians.

It's a burden they put upon themselves by making the claim, yet when someone calls bullshit on them for it, they're always ready with the weasling and the side stepping explanations.

The fact is, you can't claim to be influenced directly by holy spirit in your leadership, which by biblical definition always comes back to God with results and always pefectly accomplishes what it sets out to do because it IS the power of a God that the Bible claims is perfect in all his ways, and always be seriously screwing up Biblical interpretation.

Human imperfection is always the beg off, and no doubt, the actual cause of being consistently WRONG, but dammit, then quit making all these claims to be "the faithful and discreet slave" which is by definition inspired directly by holy spirit. You can't be BOTH! You cannot be WRONG this much and also be the spirit inspired faithful slave!
