Because in my experiance it was once in a blue moon! Even if we did ask/ suggest for money. Most of the contributions put in the box were out of the JW's own pocket. So i can't see that printing mags and books is a very profitable way of going about things?
How often did you get donations from the HH in the FS?

once it became a donation basis, I quit asking for money.
I hate it when someone gives me something, and then asks for a "donation".
I will not do that.

Usually, I would donate nothing upfront for the littera-trash. I didn't buy the crap about its not being double donating, since it really was. I would wait for the householder to donate, and then forward that to the box. If I did donate my own money, I would deduct whatever I got in the territory from my donation so I wouldn't double donate. Eventually, I simply quit donating altogether and rarely if ever asked the householders for donations--hence, they would take a bath every time I placed any littera-trash.

The last few years, I felt really embarrassed asking for donations. So I usually didn't.

Very few people ever gave a donation.
I was once accosted by Hare Krishnas who wanted me to take a vegetarian cookbook. They then said it was free but people were making donations, good buddies were giving £5. I told them that I was a bad buddyand would never use it so they should save it for the next good buddy to come along.
I always felt you were lying to people, on one hand saying something was free and on the other that they should be guilted into parting with money. I

Since the change to donations, I rarely asked for one and I have never put money in the donation box out of my own pocket. The very few times I got a donation from the HH I put that in.
I think I can count on one hand the amount of times I have ever donated out of my own pocket to the WTBS. I know, I was a rebel.

Some before 1990 since I wanted to be recouped for what I paid; after 1990 rarely since I no longer paid (or donated) for them. Also, I was puzzled why we did not ask people for funds when they had taken no literature if the money was not supposed to be directly associated with the publications.

I never asked after it was donation... rare to get money once in a while I'd get veggies...

One time I placed a book and got a donation. I rarely hear a JW mention the donation arrangement (except when giving a sample presentation on a kingdom ministry part on how to ask for a donation). Most congregations as a whole seem to contribute enough to cover the cost of the magazines they donate, use, recycle or stack up at home.
