During pregnancy, is the mothers blood in any way passed onto the baby?

I ask this because if it is, then why even bother saying that people should abstain from blood?

If you could answer this for me, using sources, it would be a great help.

God: Short answer is yes. i believe all major blood components at some point during the pregnancy pass from mother to child. (i read it somewhere but i forgot the exact place)

    But it gets even better:

Breastmilk is full of white blood cells, ie. its in a higher concentration than in regular blood. Yes, according to WT logic, White blood cells is 'blood' which we should 'abstain' from (this include eating), yet for some reasons Jehovah designed us in such a way we abselutely HAVE to eat it to survive. Guess jehovah didnt read the watchtower when he made Eve.

So if you feel cheaky, you could ask a breast-feeding JW if its allright to regularily give a child a fluid that contain a full blood component and see what they answer ;-)

    Yes ......

Also at delivery the baby's can pass into the mothers (Rh-disease)

The WTS is aware of this too.......it pushes it off as Jehovah's doing, as far as Rh-disease, taking it Rhogam was condemned years ago but is now a MOC.

I can vouch for the breast milk too.......

    Here is some 'interesting reading'

I would also point out that on a 'technicality' any JW ever receiving an IV has been transfused with their own blood in violation of the current WTS policy of 'stored blood'. You see when a nurse inserts the needle she is looking for the 'flash' of blood to enter syringe. This blood is contained fully, not circulated and is returned into the JW body when IV fluids start to flow.

The placenta is a remarkable organ that connects the mother’s blood supply with that of the developing fetus through the umbilical cord. It transports oxygen and nutrients to the baby’s blood and returns the baby’s waste to the mom’s blood for disposal through her kidneys.

The placenta, formed from the same cells as the embryo, attaches to the wall of the uterus and to the umbilical cord. Oxygen-rich, nutritious blood travels from Mom to the fetus by the umbilical vein in the umbilical cord. The umbilical vein delivers the blood to the liver and then much of it travels on to the right side of the heart. Here it mixes with blood of the fetus and is sent on through two special openings, bypassing the nonfunctioning lungs, into the left side of the heart for distribution to the entire body. After completing the circuit, the blood that has delivered oxygen and nutrients to the fetus now flows via major vessels back to the umbilical cord where the two umbilical cord arteries carry it back to the placenta.

While the placenta allows oxygen and nutrients to pass through it, it also filters out many potentially harmful substances and infections. Near term, the placenta produces hormones that play a role in triggering labor and delivery. After the baby is born, the placenta’s job is done and the placenta is delivered as the afterbirth.

In some cases the placenta may not develop correctly or function as well as it should. It may be too thin, too thick or have an extra lobe, or the membranes may be improperly attached. Most of these issues are detected via ultrasound. Signs of a problem include vaginal bleeding and/or continuous abdominal pain. If you’re pregnant and have questions about your placenta, ask your doctor about it during an ultrasound

Hi Carlos - an excellent site on blood is: http://www.ajwrb.org/

Associated Jehovah's Witnesses for Reform on Blood - It's a site run by current witnesses who believe the society is completely misguiding us about blood. It has lots of information.

I hope this helps. All the best,

Noo light: all babies will be shunned until they express repentance of their sinful way.

When I was pregnant with my first child in Dec 98...... I stumbled across this document (granted it was in French at the time and I paid $60 to have it translated at UT) after being told by local Elders and Service Desk to more or less do my own research regarding my accepting Rhogam.

The GB made taking blood products a MOC in June 2000........granted some blood like transfusion carry an 'auto-da' penalty. Yep the holy spirit directed responsible representatives of the slave class chose to keep their precious foothold in Bulgaria than 'wait on Jah' and uphold his alleged holy degree of abstaining from blood.

My love of the legal department was reaffirmed...... I don't always agree with them but I get where they are coming from.....their agenda and their job!

(big wet sloppy tongue kisses to legal cuz I luvs ya, really you are one of my kind!---- oh and 'let my Toti go')

Yes, I accepted Rhogam six times for having incompatible blood type with every one of my seven babies. I had two children after being around the Orgaizations rules. I still took Rhogam after I was baptised because I figured if the baby and I passed blood between us during pregnancy then I was at least justified in accepting blood fractions that could save a baby's life in any subsequent pregnancies.

FYI --I got a tubal after that. Maeve
