Rumor has it that there was a split between the Schullers regarding succession in the ministry...
More than a rumor:
Robert Schuller's
son leaves Crystal
Cathedral Updated 12/16/2008 10:23 AM GARDEN GROVE, California (AP) — The Rev. Robert
A. Schuller has resigned as senior pastor of the
Crystal Cathedral in southern California two months
after his father yanked him from the church's long-
running Christian television program, Hour of
Power . Schuller, who resigned last month, plans to start his
own ministry, according to a press release on the
Crystal Cathedral's website. Juan Carlos Ortiz,
founder of the Crystal Cathedral Hispanic Ministry,
will take over as senior pastor until a permanent
replacement is found. "It is expected that Robert will make an
announcement soon regarding plans for his new
ministry," the Crystal Cathedral said in the press
release. "The leadership and congregation wishes
him all the best as his plans unfold." The Crystal Cathedral, with its glittering landmark
megachurch, was founded by Schuller's father, the
Rev. Robert H. Schuller, who upon arriving in
Southern California in 1955 gained attention when
he began preaching from a drive-in movie theater in
Orange County.
