As to how thoroughly priests are acquainted with their Bible, regardless of how much they may know about theology, philosophy, church history, etc., can be gathered from the errors appearing in the section "Bible Class Studies" of Our Sunday Visitor of May 25, 1952. This article stated: "Later Abraham had another son named Ishmael." As if Ishmael were born after Isaac, when all should know that Ishmael was the result of impatience for a seed by Abraham through Sarah. It also went on to state: "It was after the deliverance of Lot from the fire which destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah that God promised Abraham a son." In Genesis, chapter 15, we first read of God’s promise of a son. Chapter 18 gives the warning regarding Sodom and Gomorrah, whereas it is first in the following chapter (19) that we are told of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. The magazine published corrections in its July 6 issue.

If such obvious and striking errors can be penned by a Catholic priest writing Bible class studies for an official Roman Catholic publication, and its own staff does not notice them, then what can be said about the average Catholic priest? Their Scriptural literacy must be of the same quality as that of the writer of the article.

--The comedy of the Watchtower referring to "obvious and striking errors" from another religion's publication is virtually unlimited. And indeed, the final quote, "What can be said about the average Catholic priest? Their Scriptural literacy must be of the same quality as that of the writer of the article." So then when the Watchtower makes equally obvious and striking errors, could not the same logic be applied to their elders, ministerial servants, pioneers, publishers, etc.?

At the time this article was published, the Society was teaching that the 'superior authorities' were not the governments, when it was quite obvious from the Bible that they were. Probably they held to the teaching about the anointed being selected by 1935, which was a doctrine held to until 3 years ago. "This generation"? A few iterations off from 'present truth'. Do we need to go on? But really that's not even the tip of the iceberg; there were more errors that hadn't even been thought of yet in 1953, when this was written. Like organ transplants, rape = fornication, you name it.

Wow. I just don't get it. It never stops being hard to deal with just how misled we all were.

    Wow. Great quote.

"It, umm, cough, cough, obviously doesn't apply to us though. We were never wrong! The light has just become brighter."

Good catch Sd-7. And to add to 5thgen's reminders, we don't err, we clarify.

What strikes me is that the Catholics made errors in May and "published corrections" in July.

When the Borg makes errors in its magazines, they either simply publish something different a few years later as if that new information had always been their published information or they just ignore the issue altogether until it fades from memory. When does the Watchtower ever come out and "publish corrections" for their errors?

    This comes to mind.

    Matthew 7:1-5 (New International Version)

1 "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

3 "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

    Blessings,

    Stephen

I'd say the light has gotten so bright that they are clearly blinded.
