I must be in a really weird mood this week. Take for instance these two pieces of music I just finished.

    They sort of defy category.

I bet this'll get lots of replies. Mine doesn't, but your music will.

    I will listen anyway.

Okay, i quite like these actually, especially the first one, it would make good soundtrack music to some 1960's thriller or something like that. I suppose you catagorise them as instrumental mood music, but that's quite vague & sort of downplays their melodic nature somewhat. Catagory is a silly idea anyway really.

What software do you use? Cubase?

Category is a marketing shortcut at best. At worst, it stifles and buries outside-the-box thinking. I suppose marketing could give everything a rethink but it wouldn't reach the retail shelves without somebody with a shotgun standing over them.

I don't use any software at all, actually. The keyboard I use is a Yamaha Motif Es6. Everything is internal. There is, of course, a way I could connect everything to my laptop. But, I don't find it necessary.

I do all my tracks on board the keyboard and create a .wav file which I put on a thumbdrive. I remove the thumbdrive and put it on my computer and convert to .mp3.

    That's all.
