I still don't want to pledge allegiance. Not to the flag or america. I'm not sure what all that entails. I have always liked the star spangled banner though, so I'll probably participate in that.
My mother got kicked out of school every day for not saluting the flag in the early 40's. I used to get sent out into the hall in the 70's for not slaluting the flag.
Since the governments are placed by God, and bear his sword according to the bible ... I don't have a problem with it. Especially with the phrase added "under God". Seems to perfectly fit the biblical mandate.

When I went to school it was considered sacriligious to not pledge the flag..somewhere in the back of my mind I seem to recall someone being sent out of the room because of some issue of other.
I pledge the idea of having a government that actually cares about it's people and wants only the best for it's people..but not for some money grubbing politicians that are only in it to see how high they can go in status and earnings..
Do they have a special salute for that?
In the Dark Ages peasants were allowed to live on the land of a wealthy landlord in exchange for working the land and turning over almost all of the crops and produce to that wealthy Landlord. Further, they were compelled to serve as an army to fight the enemies of that landowner. These poor peasants might well lose their life fighting with sticks against a better armed adversary just so that their family would have a subsistance meal on the table!
These were called Liege Lords.
I find it reprehensible that a free people are indoctrinated from childhood to think of themselves as peasants owing their life and duty (allegience comes from Leige Lord) to the State like mere chattel!
Government is not a benefactor. It is a burden. Often corrupt, lying, insuffrably extravagent and inefficient---how dare bureaucrats ask our children to place their little hands over their hearts and PLEDGE allegiance as VASSALS to their whims and malefactions!

Snoozy, JW's are not allowed to pledge alegiance to their countries even though Jesus himself charged us to pay ceasar his due.
Our allegiance is owed to none other than Jaheshua Mischjah. He himself said so:
" All will hate you for your allegiance to me."--Matthew 10:22 New English Bible.
If you are giving it to someone or something else, including that of a piece of cloth, well . . . what can I say.

One can still bear allegiance to one's country if one wishes, as well as to one's God. My problem with it is that it was meant to slam the Confederacy when it said, "one Nation, indivisible." If one believes that states have the right to secede from the Union, then the Pledge is an affront to that belief. And for that reason alone, I wouldn't say it. A number of non-slave northern states would have joined the Confederacy had it not been so boneheaded in its insistance of the sanctity of slavery. The Union gave the South no other choice but to secede when it slapped horrendous tarriffs on it. My great grandfather was a Pennsylvania Yankee, who ran away from home at the age of 16 to joing the Confederacy, and he didn't give a hoot about slavery. He just considered Lincoln a tyrant.

I knew it, except that up until my son's high-school graduation this year, I always thought that the hat was removed and placed over the heart. Now I know that the hat is held in the right hand and the right hand is placed over the heart, which puts the hat on the right shoulder.
