''Any Latter-day Saint who denounces or opposes, whether actively or otherwise, any plan or doctrine advocated by the prophets, seers, and revelators of the Church is cultivation the spirit of apostasy…Lucifer…wins a great victory when he can get members of the Church to speak against their leaders and to do their own thinking…

When our leaders speak, the thinking has been done. When they propose a plan—it is God’s plan. When they point the way, there is no other which is safe. When they give directions, it should mark the end of the controversy. (Improvement Era, June 1945, p. 354)'' http://www.truthnet.org/Christianity/Cults/Mormon7/

sounds familier don't it! Change some key words and it could almost be right from the pages of the watchtower...

Any Jehovahs witness who denounces or opposes, whether actively or otherwise, any plan or doctrine advocated by the faithful & discreet slave of the organization is cultivating the spirit of apostasy…Satan…wins a great victory when he can get members of the congregation to speak against the Governing Body and to do their own thinking…

When The Governing Body speak, the thinking has been done. When they propose a plan—it is God’s plan. When they point the way, there is no other which is safe. When they give directions, it should mark the end of the controversy.

Yes, but in general the JWs are much more strict when it comes to shunning "apostates" or the disfellowshipped.

I have --- or had --- a Mormon friend. Once she did her "testimony" with me --- and I did not respond by "converting" --- she dumped me as a friend. Yup, there are indeed similarities.

I was about to say that at least the Mormons gave up plural marriage in a decisive doctrinal change -

But then I remembered that they did not at all do it on their own. It was effectively forced upon them by the U.S. and state governments.

And, of course, many splinter groups still practice it.

They are kind of a weird parallel shadow to the JWs, in my view.
