Sorry if this has been covered before.

The standard response to the 'why?' question from the WBTS is that they needed a library card.

This has been debunked by many people who say that this is a lie - you do not have to be an NGO to gain access to the library.

So I ask this question of them: So why DID they become an NGO of the UN? I mean, why risk the charge of hypocrisy that would surely arise when they were found out - they must have had a reason. It seems to me that wanting EASY access to the library is the most logical explanation.
(still makes em hypocrites though).

The easy and correct explanation is money and power. The Nov 22, 1998 Awake gives several articles cozy toward the UN but then one complaining that France has declared the Watchtower Society to be a cult against the enjoyment of full rights for French citizens, denied it tax exemptions as given other charitable chuch/nonprofit groups etc. In Africa the WTS found they could get the UN to provide food etc to JWs who fled Malawi to Mozambique, thus allowing them to pay relatively little to nothing for helping the Malawian JWs. The WTS was able to speak at Human Rights Commission meetings against various countries which like France had declared it against the public good. Though no longer an official associate with the UN the old personal ties with UN staffers can continue to the extent that local JW elders are not aware of what the men in Brooklyn did, though I hear that in Europe this second some of the elders may be dissenting a bit more openly over the 1991-2001 UN liason. Easy answer: power and money.

The reason Fredhall is participating in an apostate forum like this is because he is responsible for the WTS-UN debacle and has been dismissed from Bethel. After many years as a cook at the world HQ, they decided to give Freddie more responsibility and he decided to have the WTS join up as an NGO so he could watch the pretty females who work there as the come and go. I have suggested that the UN maintenance crews check all of the ladies rooms for holes punched in the walls of the women's toilet stalls.

It's just more of that grate wit that only Fred thinks is funny, or he just types to hear himself type. He might add to the board someday, but I doubt it. Like I said befor Fred wit is some thing you can't fake...

The WTS wanted some recognition. NGO status gives something to them. The library card thing is just an explanation. If it was only a library issue, they should not have resigned their position..but I guess it might have been coming after all the press coverage...in the UK anyway! I don't think the US press chomped on this story.
