    MCP Card Distribution--An Article

Sometime back I promise I would secure an article on the subject of MCP card distribution during the Banda era by an educated Malawian with firsthand experience on the subject. I have fulfilled this obligation and today placed that article online at my blog.

“MCP Card Distribution--An Article” is available at: http://marvinshilmer.blogspot.com/2010/09/mcp-card-distribution-article.html

Thanks Marvin. I was a kid during that time but was sickened by how the "brothers and sisters" there were treated. I remember being very afraid that I would also experience that type of persecution. Now that I know the full story, I can't help but wonder why the WTS took such a stand. Talk about poking a stick into a hornet nest.

Those thugs wanted money and had the authority of the government behind them. Your options were to 1) pay the extortion, 2) rise up and revolt or 3) allow yourself and your family to be tortured and killed.

That the WTS instructed those folks to refuse under this senario is unforgivable. All the blood that was spilled is one their hands just as much as it is on the thugs that actually did the deed.

    Marvin,

Most enlightening. Thank you. I was aware that there was only one political Party in Malawi at the time, so dubs weren't "joining" anything political by obtaining the card. They were already deemed members of the one Party by Banda's fiat.

But this article clearly shows that buying that "political" card wasn't getting involved in "politics" at all, not even the politics of that one party. It was nothing more than an excuse for what amounted to a "head tax", and such a tax is a normal "render Caesar's things to Caesar" tax and thus Biblically acceptable.

Now, the only other question left unanswered is "why did the WTS make a policy that forced those poor dubs in Malawi to get raped and murdered by the dozens? No doubt, that policy came from Fred Franz. But was Franz ignorant of what the card purchase was really about, and make his policy on ignorance, or was it more sinister and made for the sole purpose of whipping up the flock to believe the worldwide persecution was starting? In any event, it is inexcusable if he did it for either of those reasons
