So, the poor suckers that paid for the Rochester Assembly hall
are being asked to pony up $112,000 for a residence for the D.O.
and others. Add the Paterson expansion to this and what do you
    have?

Simple, they're looking out for their own, the guys in control,
    the power structure.
Growth in the U.S. is stagnant and contributions aren't good.
There's bad P.R. on the horizon and possible lawsuits. Yet, to
survive, they need to hold on to the guys who maintain their
control of the congregations - C.O.'s, D.O.'s , lawyers, and
others. Sweat shop volunteers are in short supply, a nice office
in a country club atmosphere works so much better.

So, even as calendars get smaller, books are in paperback and
they're the only religion I know of who are too cheap to afford
real subscriptions - they build residences and offices - to hold
    to what they've got.

These guys could teach Enron some tricks.

So congregations around Rochester, New York, must pay $112,000 for a home for the District Overseer, eh. The Circuit Overseers must be a bit envious.

At one local hall, they're making a new renovation, although the hall is a beautiful one, and prior renovations just got done about 10 years ago. My mother thinks it's because they want to look very smart, since this area has become a lot more upscale since the last renovation.

But, imagine all the time, money, and sacrifice that the Dubs are going to put into a thing like that, just for looks. There's certainly plenty of room for 'new hires' in the present format. It's sad, really.

    They probably did.

The Watchtower reported a gross earning of $951 million in 2000. My take on this is they are a huge real estate conglomerate, investing in properties because they know for a fact that the ROI (return on investment) will be grand, thanks to the average brainwashed JW who wholeheartedly believes that the "world wide publishing work" is just so important, and that Gawd frowns upon those who don't contribute (visualize the CO at an assembly saying this from the platform).

I remember Bro. Herd saying "Gawd" lotsa times at assemblies when he was a DO in California.

    Hi all,

So whatever their protestations to the contrary, Meta once again has hit the nail on the head: the recent cheapening and chitziness of their printed output is in stark contrast to the concurrent emphasis on gratuitous construction of new buildings and needless, costly renovations of perfectly adequate Kingdom Halls (especically in the context of slow-to-no growth), all at the expense of the locals' money and donated time.... speaks eloquently of Bethel's true priorities.

Any fanily man who squanders his weekends, evenings or other resources on quick-builds, regional building committees and suchlike, should have his head examined.
