Yes it looks like he most certainly did, the victim of his abuse got little retribution
for her suffering for his actions.
Sounds like the defense really played the remorseful sympathy card to get him off from more severe penalties.
Perhaps too using the excuse that he has to care for his invalid wife now.
This not good for society to handle situations like this for it makes way for a lack of fear by perpetrators to conduct
themselves in this kind of social behavior.

It also sounds like the JWS/WTS. did a good cover up job on one of its members.
And people say that the hush up policy that the JWS use in dealing with situations like this is without fault or folly.

my daughters abuser was told by the judge "brownie points for you " because he had gone to the elders years earlier and admitted abusing a girl in the congregation , (he didnt admit everything though , that came out years later ) but then the judge wanted to know how long it was before he went on to abuse another girl in the congregation after his confession to the elders and his "reproof" , the judge withdrew the "brownie points " when he realised that straight away he went on to abuse another girl for the next 5 years ! then my girl 5 years later ! he also called it a "coverup"! just how often does this happen ? and theres all the ones you never find out out about ! im suprised the doc never reported it ! not suprised the elders never !

BLUES BROTHER - Thanks for posting this. These abuse cases need to be bumped up so newly exiting witnesses can see for themselves the cover up that goes on inside the Jehovah's Witnesses regarding child abuse. It is inexcusable how many times child molesters get off the hook because elders and authority figures don't take child abuse seriously enough !

Then to make it an even WORSE travesty of justice the article states, " Again, in 1993, he told a doctor and senior member ( elder ? ) of his church, but a decision was made NOT to inform the authorities. " How disgusting ! So how many OTHER children did this scumbag abuse and rape over the many years family and authority figures buried their heads in the sand ? Probably more than the news article mentions or is aware of.
And the REAL clincher for me is this quote, " Burke will also be placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years and is banned from working with children. " Uh-huh. Right. Let's see - Do you think the local congregation elders will co-operate and abide by that court order and keep a 24/7 lockdown watch on this guy to see if he truly IS staying away from children ? I rather doubt it. They are too busy with " kingdom interests " placing magazines at doors instead of protecting innocent children.
This a$$-wipe can play all the sympathy cards in the world he wants to however his invalid wife needs some OTHER non-perv relative to care for her or else be put in a care home if none is available. This jerk-off should do many more years of hard prison time for his offense. The damage he did to these children's lives are unable to be counted
