What are your traditions? What are you, your kids, or grandkids going as? What were some of your favorite costume or party memories? What scary movies do you like to watch?

    House divided.....

Kids will go with their dad to his church's 'fall festival' Saturday evening.

    They haven't chosen costumes yet.....

I keep my JW ways (which kids prefer) and hold out until after Halloween and snag costumes at discount for year round dress-up play.

My town isn't into 'Halloween' and the 'Fall Festivals' start the first weekend of October and is hosted by different churches until Halloween.

I like to turn out the lights and blast and sing along to my favorite creepy Siouxsie and the Banshees songs (particularly "Melt!", "Carousel", "Scarecrow", "Happy House", "Voodoo Dolly", "Helter Skelter") in the dark. I've done that for years, though not every year. In 1998, I went to a dance party at the Mausoleum where we danced on the university founder's graves, and in 2003 I went to my first Metric show (which was also Halloween themed).

We did trick or treat until around 1972, when there was too much of a scare about pins, drugs, and razor blades turning up in the candy.

So that was true? I always thought that was an isolated incident that got blown out of proportion. But it really was happening huh?

I do not buy costumes unless one of the kids wants something I can't make or put together from finds at the second hand store. We will be trick or treating in the neighborhood, we had a blast last year (as always) and can't wait to do it again.

I hand out candy to about 500 kids and then head downtown to the cake walk to take photos for the paper.

I just hand out candy to some neighbor kids. For many years, nobody ever came back on this street trick-or-treating. Very dark back here and only 4 houses. But a fellow who grew up around the corner moved into the neighborhood with his family and they have been coming to trick or treat for several years now. The first year they came, I was not ready for them - did not expect anyone as usual. Fortunately my college-age son had some pixie sticks tucked away that we gave them. Now I am make sure I am ready with candy, but I don't dress up.

Daughter and I went trick or treating last year. In previous years my wife actually took her trick or treating, but she is a dub now and is suppose to shun that holiday. I guess technically, Christians are suppose to shun it too and instead go to 'fall festivals' instead. I grew up doing it and see nothing wrong with it, though.

I might consider doing those 'fall festivals' too since my wife has been doing other church events with me she might join us.

I so hope we get to do the Greek festival this year. Our anniversary tends to overlap that event.

Haven't picked out the costume yet for my daughter. Well, SHE hasn't decided on one yet. She was a skeleton last year.
