When the "Messiah" Jesus came along many were attracted.
The others either tried actively provoking the coming of the Messiah by attacking Romans or retreated into insular conclaves in the desert.
The NEW THING was christianity.
It spread and split and argued and split and debated until Constantine demanded ORTHODOXY for unity's sake.
The Catholic Church became the NEW thing and the process began again.
The Protestant Reformation became the New-new thing and so on.
Jehovah's Witnesses came at the tail end of the shining City on a Hill ideas of Puritans.
America had not turned out to be the Christian Utopia all had dreamed of creating.
Civil War turned christian brothers into murderers of their own.
By the time Adventism sprung up and failed twice by predicting Christ's Second Advent it was time for an echo of an echo of an echo: Pastor Russell.
Russell was the new-new-new thing and his Pyramidology nonsense and Plan of the Ages Wall Chart was all the rage until it was proved false yet again.
Rutheford turned Russell's crowd into an assault weapon upon christendom and Government.
They became shock troops in the neighborhoods carrying declamatory messages and Watchtower articles filled with Armageddon until it failed so many times it was too embarassing to continue.
Today's Watchtower Society is a Governing Body best described as VAMPIRES OF ORTHODOXY.
They have no new-new-new-new Docrtines to offer. The best they can do is SUCK the last few drops out of the old leftovers and spit them in the faces of publishers.
They are so busy explaining why they are the True Religion they forget to come up with anything new. Their idea of "new" is now really clumsy explanations of why the old explanations are misunderstood.
The Governing Body is feeding off the corpses of their historical "thinkers" like Fred Franz and Judge Rutherford. They have nothing at all to offer that hasn't been repudiated time and time again.
The meetings are like funerals with each study driving a stake into the heart of True Believers.
The only thing left is to clamp down on ORTHODOXY by creating a climate of Interrogation, Suspicion and Inquisition to keep the lid on their rancid jar of spoiled "truth."
