Ever have a DVD freeze up on you?

    Hello fellow movie lovers.

I finally got a DVD player and am excited about watching newer films, though I have a huge VHS collection. I rented Saving Private Ryan and it froze where John Miller died in the presence of James Ryan, Miller's exhorting Ryan to "earn it."

The DVD is old and scratched. Fortunately, I was able to pick up the ending on Youtube.

Is there any solution to getting past the "frozen" spot?

    Thanks!

You do realize that you just ruined the movie for those who haven't seen it?

The disc can be re-conditioned with the right equipment. The movie rental places usually have one of these devices.

Some DVD players are more sensitive to scratches than others. Try a different player if one is available. Don't overlook your computor player if it has one. If you rent from a store ask them to let you visually inspect the disc first.

I usually try to slowly fast forward over the scratched part. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions. Next time I'll inspect the disc.

The disc, from the library, is very old and scratched everywhere. Thanks for the thoughts.
