There are some similarities - both were young (around 14) both ended up challenging what other religions, ancient and contemporary, were teaching. Joseph was considered a prophet and Russell, inspite of suggestions to the contrary, was too. Joseph had his golden plates and Russell his watchtower. Russell was influenced by other religions and religious men of the day which leads me to the query. I have never heard or read that he looked into the Mormon religion, but it seems strange considering the time factor and the time factor.
anybody?
nobody?
Interesting question. There was much borrowing among the new movements of the time he could have very well looked into the Mormon's. I think Terry, Leolia, Farkel, Dogpatch, to name a few, could give an answer.
how about it one of those listed
Evidently, their lives don't overlap.
The only mention of the LDS is in the Finished Mystery which was not directly written by Russell but are quotes compiled by 2 other people.

in hatred of the Truth and darkness in regard to God's Plan...
Sounds like the WTS and Russell by association deemed them in the same category as all other religions
I've seen no evidence that he did. I would have especially noticed if he did because I grew up around Mormons.
