The police in Lagos, this morning, gave the order for the arrest of Mr. Festus Keyamo, counsel to Mr. Damola Adebayo, the number one suspect in the murder of Chief Bola Ige. Security agents officially invited him yesterday to tell them more about what he knows about Adebayo as a person.
Security sources revealed that even though Keyamo cannot be said to have been arrested, an official security letter inviting him for further chat has been sent to his chambers.
Top security officers said Keyamo's invitation was informed by preliminary investigation which revealed that Adebayo must have been tutored by Keyamo to pervert the course of justice in the murder case. "We have officially invited Keyamo for criminal interrogations under cautions over the matter. He has to tell us the circumstance that linked him with Fryo".
The invitation of Adebayo came on the heel of Professor Wole Soyinka's call for the probe of Keyamo over his role in the murder of Bola Ige.
' As far as we are concerned, Keyamo has some questions to answer in this case, said the police.
Keyamo has declared that he is ready for arrest by the police over the Damola Adebayo a.k.a Fryo's case, if the need arises.
Speaking with P.M.News in his office yesterday, Keyamo said that he cannot be arrested for being an accomplice in the murder of the late Chief Bola Ige because the prime suspect, Fryo, came to him as he can come to anyone, or other lawyer "except people are trying to insinuate that I am a nobody."
If there is such allegation people should come out with a statement on that". On the allegation that he kept the accused for four days, he said, "Fryo consulted me and he kept on consulting me, and initially we agreed that he must show himself to the police which he agreed. Probably if he had declined I would have handed him over to the police immediately".
Speaking on the allegation that he (Keyamo) is a member of Eiye Confraternity, he said that he is not a member of any cult and he did not know how they operate."Infact, my background as a Jehovah Witness will not permit me to do such a thing. Those who know me in my days at the university will attest to this".
Keyamo disclosed that he is ready for the police investigation and anything that may come out of the case. "I now come to the office with a short in case of any arrest or detention".
He, however, warned that since he is being denied access to his client on the excuse that he had one health problem or the other, if he dies or anything unusual happens to him, the state will account for it", he added.
