I had this thought the other day that I eventually shared with my wife. The lead in to my sharing this thought was her asking me (on our way to an assembly) something along the lines of, "I wonder if I would ever be good enough for God."
So I shared my thought that I came up with earlier and I will share it with the group here. I am especially curious about any lurking Jehovah's Witnesses and wonder if you have ever consider this yourself.
Was Charles Taze Russell good enough for God? In the proclaimers book, the society points out that pyramidogy was a part of their early teachings but was later abandoned because it was considered to be a tool of Satan. Charles Taze Russell went to his grave teaching and believing in pyramidology. If the criteria for being 'good enough for God' calls for having the 'right beliefs' or as the witnesses refer to it as 'accurate knowledge' then Brother Russell was off by a 'country mile' (well according to Brother Rutherford). My wife even added that Russell celebrated Christmas and partook in a lot of the 'worldly' celebrations. She's right, for according to current witness theology, Charles Taze Russell is so far off the mark that anyone professing similar beliefs today would be disfellowshipped.
Of course, this is nothing new for those who've research the religion but this epiphany helps put things in perspective in regards to the question, "Am I good enough for God?" I bet if you ask any active Jehovah's Witness in any congregation today whether or not Charles Taze Russell has the heavenly hope (and is perhaps already in Heaven with Christ), that witness would answer with a definite YES.
Yet, Russell went to his grave teaching and believing in something that is now considered a tool of Satan.
Just thinking...
