The whole idea of "The truth " .... is not enough!!! too much wiggle space , assumption and twisting or hiding of true facts
This is the oath said in court since the time of the Middle Ages in the Anglo-Saxon world to promise (oath ) to tell... The Truth, The Whole Truth And Nothing But The Truth. (1)the truth .......the correct information as far as you are aware.
(2)The whole truth... the word "whole" means that nothing must be omitted
(3)nothing but the truth....refers to opinion based on truth (which may not be well-informed enough) and assumption based on truth (which may not be correct )
Way back in time people in the legal profession realized that though "the truth "should in theory stand on it's own , we humans'
need qualifiers to ensure justice and avoid abuse !
It also reminds me of a saying " Many people do not actually lie they just tell the truth
in such a way that you can not get the whole ,true picture " ! ( Case in point the Proclaimers Book " )
