Does anyone know the time frame between death of John the Baptist and Jesus?

Regarding John Baptist, this is from wiki:

I wouldn't trust wikipedia on this but he was only 6 months older than Jesus. If I recall correctly Jesus heard that John got killed. Well it's an interesting thing to consider. This will require some more research!
Elizabeth was six months pregnant when Mary conceived, dear cameo-d (peace to you!), making John six months older than my Lord. My Lord was born in fall of 4 BCE; died in spring of 30 CE. John died before my Lord, so before 30 CE... and so could not have been even 34, which he would have been at the time of my Lord's own death at age 33 years and 6 months.

Most people have no clue what the Bible says, let alone time lines. Not to mention, that there is a lot of overlap with other myths and stories of the regions. So, to think there could be inaccuracies and confusion, is expected.

I am wondering because.....
Somewhere I read that the "two witnesses" would preach/teach for 3 1/2 years. Jesus's ministry was 3 1/2 years, so I wonder if John the Baptists ministry was also 3 1/2 years. He did precede Jesus with the message of redemption through baptism.
So...anyone have any confirmation on how long John Baptist preached? Was it also 3 1/2 years?
Doesn't the WT claim their own fearless leaders were the 2 witnesses?
