Why would then dipshits use this embarrassing means to spread their message and still refuse to use TV?

I have copies from 1934 to 1939. There may be others.

If you think field service is bad today, imagine having to lug one of these things around, set it up on people's porches, and try to persuade them to stand at their doors listening to a recorded speech by Joe Rutherford!

There is also a Watchtower transcription Machine on Ebay. It is the first one I have seen on Ebay.

They began using them in 1934 to replace using radio stations to preach their message, apparently many of the radio station owners banned Rutherford's speeches because he was too critical of the mainstream religions, so he put them on phonograph records, about 4 - 5 minute speech on each one.
Their use must have stopped in the 1940's when Knorr began training the JWs in so called theocratic schools to make their own presentations. So they went from radio to phonograph to individual presentation to deliver their message which as we know looking back from the year 2010 it was a message of futility that never got anyone to anywhere good.

I know they used to use radio before I was born.
ONe of the most popular AM stations in Cleveland back in the 60's
that played the Beatles, the stones and all the good rock and roll
was WHK.
Its still in business, Its Ohio's oldest radio station.
WHK was the Jehovahs witness station, We Herald the Kingdumb.
At least thats the story they told me back in the 50's at the Hall.
Back in the early 60's there was only AM radio there was no FM as far as I know.
At least in your car there was only AM, and if there was a FM there was no good
music on it untli underground radio started in the mid to late 60's
Once FM came around in the late 60's it opened the door for all the clasic rock music that
we have today. The Who, Jethroll Tull. Bruce Springsteen, Jefferson Airplane, Moby Grape, Greatfull DEad, etc...

They began using radio for preaching in 1924 and they basically pioneered the use of radio for this purpose. That was fast considering that the first radio transmissions were made in 1920 using AM waves.

The best thing about the web is seeing photos of history. It is the first time I had seen a transcription machine earlier than 1936.

I've often thought how weird this must have seemed to a householder.
Someone comes to their door with a religious message, but instead of delivering it themselves, they haul out this cumbersome gadget at their door and play a recording of a religious recruiting speech by some guy the householder never heard of.
If it worked, I suppose it was because of the novelty of it or because the householder took pity on the JWs who had to lug this thing around.
