I have been reading some of his books lately, namely the "thinking course", "H+ the new religion?" and "i'm right and you're wrong". I find his writing style to be rather arrogant and both of these books that I have, out ofthe many he has written, contain passages that are exactly the same. The "H+" book seems to be quite dictatorial and is literal about the religion thing, it's like he's tring to establish a new cult. Even more disturbing asking that fines be sent to him for not doin the required number of "pons" (positive actions) per day (albeit you set the number between 2 and 4) and he even describes a sequence of secret signals for identifying other H+ adherents. I thought it was a joke at first but as I read on it was not a joke, he provides the address to send your monetary fines to. For someone spouting that they are teaching people how to think, this book seems to have many hallmarks of trying to establish a cult (special words, self praise, dictatorial language). It is just very "instructive" and almost condecending. He spends a lot of time saying what the book will say, even 50 pages odd in. Also he talks himself up a lot. Oh and he quotes himself within the book alongside an older established philosopher even putting his quote in latin and then translating it back to english
I also am annoyed that another book I got entitled "the happiness bug" which has commentry by de Bono but is written by another author whose name escapes me just now, makes a big plug for "dianetics" and scientology, and has quotes in it such as "happiness is the line of least resistance, go with the flow" I mean thank goodness many people do not do that
My question is, considering how great this guy is supposed to be, am I alone in my negative feelings towards these books? Has anyone else read any of his books, what did you think of them/ I am still waiting on 6 thinking hats, form the library, maybe it is better. Any thoughts?
